Clear Moisture Barrier For Strong Floors
The secret to a floor that lasts a lifetime is the prep work. POURLA High-Performance Epoxy Primer is a two-component, 100% solid, low-odor, low-viscosity, high-penetration resin that creates an unbreakable bond between your concrete and top coat.
What is a high-performance epoxy primer?
It acts as the crucial foundation for any professional floor coating system. Concrete is naturally porous and holds moisture and air. If you apply a top coat directly to bare concrete, that trapped air will escape (outgassing), causing bubbles, craters, and eventual peeling.
Backed by independent lab testing, POURLA Epoxy Primer is formulated with a low-viscosity, high-penetration resin that sinks deep into the concrete's pores. It physically locks into the slab, sealing off moisture vapor transmission and providing a smooth, flawless canvas for your metallic, flake, or solid color top coat.
By applying our primer, you eliminate the risk of hot-tire pickup, delamination, and moisture damage, ensuring your beautiful floor stays pristine for decades.
Core Performance Advantages
Locks Out Moisture
Certified to ASTM E96 standards. Acts as a vapor barrier to prevent hydrostatic pressure from ruining your floor and causing coating failure.
Unbeatable Adhesion
Tested to ASTM D4541-22. Penetrates deep into the concrete profile to create a permanent mechanical bond with the slab.
Stops Outgassing
Seals pores to prevent air bubbles and pinholes from forming in your expensive top coat.
Versatile Application
Perfect base coat for epoxy flake systems, metallic epoxy, solid colors, and polyaspartic floors.
Fast Cure Time
Formulated for efficiency, allowing you to move on to your next top coat sooner (5-7 hours).
Low Odor & Zero VOCs
100% solids formula means no harsh chemical smells during application. Completely safe for indoor use.
How Much Do I Need?
Depending on the porosity of your concrete, a single 1.5-gallon kit will cover approximately 220 to 300 square feet (150-200 sq. ft. per gallon).
If your concrete is highly porous, broom finished, or mechanically ground very rough, it will absorb more primer and the coverage rate will decrease.

Where Can I Use Epoxy Primer?
Pourla High-Performance Epoxy Primer is ideal for residential, commercial, and industrial concrete floors, including:
- Garage Floors & Driveways
- Basements & Rec Rooms: Prevents moisture vapor transmission, a common issue in basements, keeping your floor safe and dry.
- Commercial Kitchens & Restaurants
- Warehouses & Manufacturing Facilities: Provides the strong foundation necessary to withstand heavy machinery and forklift traffic.
- Retail Showrooms
- Auto Shops & Hangars
It creates a secure bond on virtually any properly prepared indoor concrete surface, ensuring long-lasting performance.

How to Apply Epoxy Primer Correctly?
For best results, surface preparation is the most critical step for a successful epoxy floor.
Surface Preparation
Concrete must be clean, dry, and mechanically profiled (grinding or shot-blasting) to a CSP (Concrete Surface Profile) of 2 or 3. Ensure all dust, oils, and previous coatings are removed.
Mix with Part A and Part B
Accurately measure and mix 2 parts Resin (Part A) to 1 part Hardener (Part B) by weight. Use a low-speed drill and mix slowly for 3 full minutes, scraping the sides and bottom of the mixing container.
Apply the Primer
Pour the mixed primer onto the floor in ribbons. Use a squeegee to spread the material evenly, then immediately back-roll with a 3/8" nap lint-free roller to ensure uniform coverage.
Wait for the Top Coat
Allow the primer to cure until it is "tack-free" (usually 5-7 hours depending on temperature). You must apply your base/top coat within 48 hours to ensure a chemical bond.

Why Choose Pourla Epoxy Primer?
Unlike standard retail epoxies that sit on top of the concrete, Pourla Epoxy Primer is engineered to become part of the slab. It provides an industrial-grade foundation that residential garages, commercial warehouses, and industrial floors demand. Don't compromise your expensive top coats by skipping the prep. Start with the best foundation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need to use an epoxy primer before the top coat?
Concrete is highly porous and contains trapped air. If you apply a top coat directly, the air escapes and creates bubbles or pinholes (outgassing). Our primer seals the concrete, blocks moisture vapor, and provides an unbeatable mechanical bond (ASTM D4541-22 certified) for your subsequent layers.
How much area does one 1.5-gallon kit cover?
A 1.5-gallon kit covers approximately 225 to 300 square feet (150-200 sq. ft. per gallon). The exact coverage depends on the porosity of your concrete. Highly porous or heavily ground surfaces will absorb more primer.
How long should I wait before applying my base coat or top coat?
You should wait until the primer is "tack-free" but still within its recoat window, which is typically 5 to 7 hours at 77°F. For the best chemical bond, you must apply the next coat within 24 hours. If you wait longer than 48 hours, you will need to lightly sand the primer before recoating.
Can this primer handle high moisture levels in the concrete?
Yes. Pourla Epoxy Primer acts as a powerful moisture vapor barrier and is certified to ASTM E96 standards. It is designed to block hydrostatic pressure that would normally cause standard retail epoxies to peel or delaminate.
Does it have a strong chemical smell?
No. Our primer is a 100% solids formulation with Zero VOCs. It has a very low odor, making it completely safe for indoor use in basements, residential garages, and commercial kitchens without harsh fumes.
