Deep Pour Resin Essentials: A Guide for Perfect Castings

Pouring thick layers requires a completely different approach than standard coating resins. Follow these professional guidelines to ensure a flawless, bubble-free, and strong deep pour.

1. Temperature & Environment Control

  • Deep pour resin is highly sensitive to ambient temperature. Keep your workspace exactly between 70°F - 80°F (21°C - 26°C).
  • A warmer room will cause the resin to cure too fast and overheat; a colder room will stop the curing process.

2. Sealing the Wood (Crucial Step)

  • Wood is porous and will release millions of bubbles into your deep pour if not sealed.
  • Always apply a thin seal coat of our Art/Coating Epoxy to the raw edges of your wood and let it dry before your deep pour.

3. Proper 2:1 Mixing Ratio

  • Measure strictly 2 parts Resin (A) to 1 part Hardener (B) by volume.
  • Stir slowly for at least 5-7 minutes. Scrape the sides and bottom. Transfer to a second clean bucket and mix again to guarantee no unmixed resin ruins your project.

Deep Pour FAQs

Common questions about casting, river tables, and deep pouring.

What is Deep Pour Epoxy Resin?
Deep Pour Epoxy Resin is a specialized, low-viscosity formula designed specifically for thick castings. Unlike standard epoxies that overheat and crack if poured thick, our Deep Pour is engineered to cure slowly over 48-72 hours, allowing heat to dissipate safely and bubbles to rise to the surface. It is ideal for river tables, object encapsulation, and large molds.
What is the difference between Deep Pour and Traditional Epoxy?
The main difference is the curing speed and pour depth. Traditional (or Art/Coating) epoxy cures fast, has a 1:1 ratio, and can only be poured up to 1/4 inch thick per layer. Deep Pour epoxy has a 2:1 ratio, cures much slower, and is designed to be poured up to 2-4 inches thick in a single application without overheating or cracking.
Can I pour Deep Pour Epoxy thick?
Yes! Pourla Deep Pour Epoxy is engineered to be poured up to 4 inches thick in a single layer, depending on the total volume of your pour and the ambient room temperature. For extremely massive projects, we recommend pouring in 2-inch stages to ensure maximum heat control.
Where can I use Deep Pour Epoxy Resin?
It is the perfect choice for thick applications such as live-edge river tables, large-scale woodcrafts, floral preservation blocks, custom lighting fixtures, and filling deep voids or cracks in wood slabs.
What surfaces does Deep Pour Epoxy stick to?
Deep Pour Epoxy creates a powerful structural bond with wood, concrete, metal, stone, and ceramics. It will NOT stick to silicone, HDPE (high-density polyethylene), or surfaces covered in mold release wax or packing tape, making these materials ideal for building your pouring forms and molds.
Is Deep Pour Epoxy compatible with silicone molds?
Absolutely. The slow-curing, low-heat properties of our Deep Pour epoxy make it incredibly safe and highly compatible with silicone molds, preventing the mold from burning or deteriorating prematurely.
