About Pourla Epoxy Resin

What is Pourla Epoxy Resin?

Pourla Epoxy provides premium, easy-to-use art and deep pour epoxy resins for artists, crafters, and DIYers. Founded by Tony and Zack at UC Santa Barbara in 2020, we're passionate about making resin crafting enjoyable and rewarding, offering formulas that deliver stunning, durable results.

How did Pourla Epoxy Resin get started?

In 2020, at UC Santa Barbara, we (Tony and Zack) were frustrated by the lack of good, affordable resin. We spent a year in our garage lab developing our own formula, driven by the desire to create accessible, high-quality resin for fellow creators.

We're passionate about empowering creativity and fostering a thriving maker community. We're inspired by our customers' creations and believe in building connections and sharing inspiration to help artists and makers grow.

Queries Related to Product Information

What are the differences between Art Epoxy Resin & Deep Pour Epoxy Resin?

Art Epoxy Resin is for thin pours (up to 1/4 inch), ideal for art, jewelry, and crafts with a high-gloss finish. It has a 1:1 mixing ratio and bubble-free formula.

Deep Pour Epoxy Resin is for thick pours (up to 4 inches), perfect for river tables, countertops, and large castings, with minimal heat buildup and exceptional clarity.

What are the mixing ratios for Pourla Epoxy Resins?

Pourla Art Epoxy Resin uses a 1:1 mixing ratio by volume. Deep Pour Epoxy's ratio is 2A:1B. Always follow the product label instructions and measure accurately.

What is the cure time for Pourla Epoxy Resins?

Cure times vary based on temperature, humidity, and pour thickness. Art Epoxy generally cures in 24-72 hours. Deep Pour Epoxy may take several days, especially for thicker pours. Allow full curing before handling. See product instructions for details.

What is the maximum pour depth for Deep Pour Epoxy Resin?

Deep Pour Epoxy Resin is engineered for pours up to 4 inches. Exceeding this can cause excessive heat buildup. For deeper pours, use multiple layers, allowing each to partially cure before the next.

What types of pigments and additives can be used with Pourla Epoxy Resin?

Pourla Epoxy Resin is compatible with liquid and powder pigments (mica, metallics), alcohol inks, glitter, dyes, glow-in-the-dark powders, and fillers. Use resin-specific products and test a small batch first.

How should I store Pourla Epoxy Resin?

Store Pourla Epoxy in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep containers tightly sealed.

What safety precautions should I take when working with epoxy resin?

Work in a well-ventilated area, wear gloves and eye protection, avoid skin/eye contact, and wash thoroughly if contact occurs. Follow product label safety instructions.

Common Troubleshooting While Using Pourla Epoxy

How do I avoid bubbles in my resin projects?

To minimize bubbles: warm the resin (gently), mix slowly and thoroughly, use a heat gun/torch (with caution), pour slowly, or use a pressure pot (advanced).

How do I measure and mix resin correctly?

Use the correct mixing ratio (Art Epoxy: 1:1, Deep Pour: 2A:1B). Measure by volume for small projects or weight for large projects. Mix thoroughly for 2-3 minutes, scraping the container.

What are some common mistakes to avoid when working with resin?

Avoid incorrect mixing ratios, incomplete mixing, working in cold/humid environments, overheating the resin, and not using proper safety precautions such as gloves, eye protection, and ventilation.

What types of molds can I use with Pourla Epoxy?

Compatible molds include silicone, epoxy-safe plastic, sealed wood, and metal which may require a release agent.

How do I clean up resin spills?

Before curing: wipe with paper towels/rags and use isopropyl alcohol/acetone for residue.

After curing: scraping/sanding may be necessary. You can use drop cloths.

Why is my resin sticky after curing?

Sticky resin is usually due to incorrect mixing ratios, incomplete mixing, or improper curing conditions such as temperature/humidity.

Why is my cured resin cloudy or foggy?

Cloudiness/fogging can be caused by high humidity, low temperature, or moisture contamination. Work in a dry environment and store resin/hardener properly.
